Nancy van Rooy has built her life in the City of Pickering. She has raised her family, been involved in the community and served her city and her region for almost 40 years.

Nancy’s law enforcement career spanned 32 years, a portion of that time spent as uniform patrol, and eventually a promotion to detective where she held investigative duties for almost 20 years. She additionally became the face of the Durham Regional Police Service acting as the Media Sergeant for just over half a decade.

Community minded and driven, Nancy has been involved in over 34 years of leadership, governance and board member participation of several Not-For-Profit Agencies in both Pickering and Ajax.

Throughout her professional career, when Nancy was not working she enriched her life by spending time with her family, travelling extensively and volunteering with numerous sporting clubs and associations. A life-long sailor, she has spent years sailing Lake Ontario and its waterways and is concerned for the preservation of the lake and its tributaries. An animal lover, the van Rooys continue to rescue dogs and provide them with safe and loving homes.
